Learning English - Past Perfect Tense

The past perfect is used to tell events that have been done in past time, and that there is no any connection with present day.

Here are some formula you'll have to addhere to to arrange sentences using this form

1.Positive : S + Had + V3 + O

2. Negative : S + Had + Not + V3 + O

3. Interrogative: Had + S + V3 + O

4. Active and Passive voice: S + Had + Verb 3 + O = O + Had + Been + Verb 3 + S

5. What, Who, Where, and so forth + Had + Verb 3 + O


Example Sentences

1.Positive : S + Had + V3 + O

- i had stolen andy's book last year.
- you had bought her house.
- they had had two child.
- he had learnt english for 3 years.

2. Negative : S + Had + Not + V3 + O

- i had not stolen andy's book last year.
- you had not bought her house.
- they had not had two child.
- he had not learnt english for 3 years.

3. Interrogative: Had + S + V3 + O

- had i stolen andy's book last year ?.
- had you bought her house ?.
- had they had two child ?.
- had he learnt english for 3 years ?.

4. Active and Passive voice: S + Had + Verb 3 + O = O + Had + Been + Verb 3 + S

- i had stolen andy's book last year = andy's book had been stolen by me last year.
- you had bought her house = her house had been bought by you.
- they had had two child = a two child had been had by them.
- he had learnt english for 3 years = english had been learnt by him for 3 years.
